When wear and tear does its dirty deed, I will replace it again with an exact replacement. After a few pots of coffee you will know through experience what produces the perfect cup of coffee.A safety interlock switch prevents the coffee grinder operation until such time the cover is locked in place and a retractable windup power cord makes the unit easier to store or display on a counter top. This unit I purchased is a replacement for the same make and model I have owned and joyfully used for over five years. This little giant belongs in every coffee lover's home or apartment. Recommendation from a coffee lover, GET ONE. It features a set of three lights that light at different intervals during the grinding process and alerts the coffee lover when his grinds are ready for the coffee pot. Its main function is grinding coffee beans and its so described, but more about this product. Drip, perk, or whatever way you prefer to use the grinds, they are ground to your desired consistency.
I have never freshly ground my spices until this product, so it may just be a lack of experience issue on my part. The grounds are a bit on the chunky side even after grinding it for a while. Still, I didn't give it 5-stars because it didn't make it explicit on how to work with spices in this grinder. I bought this grinder because apparently the one from KitchenAide (I think) was discontinued (you know, the one with the tall metal cup.). Any who, I do like this one a lot for spice grinding (I don't drink coffee).
Now the good:The unit is very quiet as far as coffee grinders go; I do not have to worry about waking up the kids having my morning coffee. I kept it anyway. Also, it does not generate ANY static on the grounds, which is a real pain with other grinders.I would have given it 5 stars, but I was a bit unhappy about the lack of info about the type if grinder that it is. Well, the grinder I wanted was a burr grinder, and this isn't one. I thought it was because it can grind to different levels or "coarse-ness", but that is because you just grind longer.
The whole machine is small enough with an ergonomic design for gripping, that I just turn it over and pour the grinds directly into the brewer's filter, or into a sealed container for later use. Highly recommend them.People complain of this grinder making a mess. The cup has measurement indicators on the side which are nice. To make sure all the grinds comeout, I just smack the whole thing down on the counter two times, all of it loosens up, and out it comes. I just started getting into french press makers, so I now also stop just before the coarse light comes on (about 8 seconds) for the right grind, and it works just great. I've had this grinder going on 5 years and have never had a problem with it.
Another 10, and you're at espresso fine. I'm not sure how. Yes, you have to hold the button down, but its easily done while wrapping your hand around the whole unit. I still may get a burr grinder, but only because I'm curious and getting into the press pot big time now. Been doing that for 4 years, and its held up just fine. It gets fresh beans to a coarse grind in under 10 seconds.
I've used the espresso grind in one of the mass-market espresso machines pretty often, and its just fine for home use.
Comes with a one year warranty although we never had to use it. We're especially pleased that it's a very clean grinder. Would definitely purchase again. We've had the DeLonghi grinder for almost three years. It still works perfectly.
